Director of Institute of Automation and Electronic Instrumentation shares his student life memories

Andrey Ferenets, graduate of the Faculty of Automatic Control Systems and Aircraft Equipment of Kazan Aviation Institute in 1981. Nowadays, he is the director of Institute of Automation and Electronic Instrumentation.

- As for me, the period of my studies at KAI from 1975 to 1981 is definitely one of the most wonderful times in my life. I have made new friends, who I still keep in touch with. Thanks to the outstanding academic staff of KAI, I mastered the profession basics. My student days have been always loaded with youth festivals, olympiads, conferences and what not, – shares his memories Andrey Ferenets.

Besides, studying at the university, I was actively involved in the sailing section of KAI, which was a great passion of mine. Sailing is not only about competitions in the waters of the Volga and Kazanka, overcoming wind, waves, and bad weather, but mostly it means having multi-day river trips, constant work on improving and restoring equipment (hull, sails, masts, boom, sheets and other gear). My skills in using manual scrapers, epoxy resin, and also the ability to tie knots have been very useful throughout my life.

Moreover, in 1979 I participated in the VII Summer Spartakiad (the National Games) of the Peoples of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in Leningrad as part of the Tatarstan Republic sailing team. We were able to compete against top-class athletes with high quality equipment, which could not be compared to ours for sure. Obviously, we did not hit the podium, however, we did the best we could, coping not just with famous sportsmen but the cold waters of the Gulf of Finland. The main thing is that we managed to overcome ourselves! This is exactly what I would like to wish our students on the Russian Students Day!
